On September 19, 2024, the National Police Agency (NPA) reported to the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) on the successful result of “2024 International Forum on Police Cooperation (IFPC).” According to Vice Minister Wu Tang-An, with the development of the Internet, telecommunications and digital finance, fraudulent crimes have evolved into new types of organized crime. By means of human trafficking and digital technology, transnational fraud has seriously endangered international order, people's lives and property. It involves various issues that need to be solved by international cooperation. Since 2018, the MOI has been promoting international police cooperation to combat transnational fraud. Vice Minister Wu emphasized that as a responsible global citizen, Taiwan is dedicated to fulfilling its international obligations and eagerly seeks to collaborate with nations worldwide to combat fraud. Taiwan’s participation is essential in shaping a comprehensive and effective global framework for crime prevention and enforcement. Once again, he called on all international law enforcement partners to continue to support Taiwan's joining the Interpol. Together, we can ensure a safer world.
The NPA has organized 5 forums since 2023, in response to the current global issues. The “Combating Transnational Fraud” forum this year brought together global experts in law enforcement, as moderators, speakers, and panelists, from Europe, the USA, and the Asia-Pacific region. The forum featured keynote speeches and 4 sessions covering topics such as “Cyber and Telecom Crime,” “Human Trafficking and Fraud,” “Illicit Financial Flows and Money Laundering,” and “New Types of Crypto Crime.” In each session, speakers offered insightful perspectives on the challenges of cross-border crimes, shared enforcement experiences, and proposed critical solutions.
The 2024 IFPC, organized by the NPA, co- hosted by the MOI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Mainland Affairs Council, was held from September 10 to 11, 2024, physically and virtually, with a total of 2,672 participants from 45 countries.
