In April this year, Deputy Director-General Liao Mei-Ling of the National Police Agency was awarded the Leadership Award 2025 by the International Association of Women Police (IAWP), bringing great pride to female law enforcement officers in Taiwan. This prestigious award recognizes Deputy Director-General Liao’s exceptional achievements in promoting policies on the safety of women and children, enhancing police information systems, and demonstrating communicative and effective leadership—fully showcasing the strength and influence of female police leaders in Taiwan.
Deputy Director-General Liao graduated from the Department of Foreign Affairs Police at the Central Police University and holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from National Taiwan University. She has held key positions in the Taipei City Police Department, Hualien County Police Department, Railway Police Bureau, and National Highway Police Bureau. With extensive professional experience and a background in foreign affairs and international engagement, she has excelled in international police cooperation and foreign affairs, standing out as one of Taiwan’s top female senior police officers.
Recognizing the rapid advancement of information technology and the growing digital challenges facing modern policing, Deputy Director-General Liao actively promoted digital transformation and cybersecurity within law enforcement during her tenure as Director of the Information Management Office at the National Police Agency. Inspired by her overseas studies on advanced police technology systems, she championed the modernization and smart transformation of Taiwan’s police infrastructure, significantly enhancing the country’s capabilities in combating cybercrime.
Founded in 1915, the IAWP is one of the world’s most influential organizations for women in law enforcement, with members spanning over 70 countries and more than 30 affiliated agencies. Since 1968, the IAWP has annually honored outstanding female officers around the world with awards in categories such as Excellence in Performance, Bravery, Civilian Achievement, and Leadership. This year, Deputy Director-General Liao Mei-Ling stood out among global candidates and was awarded the Leadership Award—a well-deserved recognition that brings great honor to Taiwan’s female police force.
