To honor the spirit of motherhood, the National Police Agency held its 2026 Model Mothers Recognition Ceremony on April 24. A total of 40 police mothers were nominated by police agencies across Taiwan. After the selection process, 17 were publicly honored by the NPA, while the remaining 23 will be recognized by the agencies that nominated them.
Each of this year’s 40 police mothers has a touching story and serves as an inspiring example of maternal devotion. Among them, 82-year-old Ms. Liu Tsao-chu, nominated by the Tainan City Police Department, left a particularly deep impression on the selection committee.
Born into a poor family, Ms. Liu lost her father at a young age and bravely took on the responsibility of supporting her household. Her deep filial devotion to her own mother also became a story well known in her community. She personally cared for her elderly mother until her passing last year at the age of 101. In addition, Ms. Liu encouraged three of her children and grandchildren to join the police service, building what many admire as a true “police family.”
The NPA said that behind every model mother is a moving life story. While police officers stand on the front lines, facing crime and protecting public safety, police mothers quietly stand behind them with love, strength, support, and concern. They may not wear uniforms, but they help sustain the courage and spirit of those who do. Their sacrifice as police family members is often unseen by the public, yet their resilience and dedication make them role models for society.
