Taichung Police Promote Disaster Preparedness Training for Volunteer Traffic Police
In coordination with the National Police Agency, the Taichung City Police Department held the opening ceremony today (April 24) for the first disaster preparedness training session of 2025 for volunteer traffic police. Deputy Minister of the Interior, Ma Shih-Yuan, attended the event to offer encouragement and hoped that more volunteer traffic police would join the disaster response certification program to enhance the collective emergency response skills and the resilience of critical national infrastructure.

To support the central government's policy on building social resilience and improving self-reliance in disaster response, the National Police Agency has launched a 2025 Disaster Preparedness Training Program for volunteer traffic police. Police departments across municipalities and counties are responsible for organizing these training sessions, with priority given to volunteer traffic police who are also licensed taxi drivers. The Taichung City Police Department has taken a proactive approach, recruiting 70 volunteer traffic officers for the program—39 of whom are also taxi drivers—to further strengthen local disaster readiness and self-help capabilities.
